Graduated from Govt. Medical College , Srinagar ,Jammu and Kashmir in 1988. Completed Postgraduation in General Surgery at SKIMS, Srinagar during 1993. Completed M.Ch in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery at PGI, Chandigarh in 1997. Joined as Assistant Professor at SKIMS, Srinagar during 1998 and continued to work for 27 years at different cadres right from Assistant Professor level to Professor and Head , CVTS till March 31, 2023. During the tenure at SKIMS, he upgraded the Specialty of CardioVascular and Thoracic Surgery , SKIMS on fast track basis. Established Various Programmes like Routine On-Pump and Off-Pump CABG, Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery on Peripheral CPB , Aortic Valve /Mitral Valve and Tricuspid Valve Repairs. Performed First and Established Radiofrequency Antiarrythmic Ablation with Concomitant Mitral Valve Replacement at SKIMS. Started and established "EndoVascular Repair of Thoracic and Abdominal Aortic Dissections " at SKIMS. Established routine surgery for Complex Congenital Cardiac Surgery. Performed "First Transatrial Surgery for VSD, TOF, DORV, DCRV" etc. Performed first and established "Transatrial- transpulmonary" Correction of Tetralogy at SKIMS. Performed first and established Pulmonary Valve Repair in Tetralogy. Established routine surgery for Tricuspid Atresia and Single Ventricle and it's Variants. Established Programmes like Minimally Invasive Thoracic Surgery, Open Abdominal Aortic Aneurysmal Surgery , Carotid Endarterectomy/Carotid Body/. Carotid Artery Aneurysmal Surgery. Performed first Transatrial/ Femo- Femoral Correction of Budd Chiari Syndrome. Established Programme for Laryngeo- tracheal surgery with modified technique and Renovascular surgery. Performed first Radiofrequency Ablation for Varicosity and established the programme. In addition, introduced many more innovative procedures at SKIMS which were not done earlier at SKIMS.
